Analyze John Hopkin's official response to Wyche's letter. Do you feel it is an appropriate response? What rhetorical strategies are used to counter Wyche's appeal?
Wyche wrote a letter to the president of John Hopkins, William Brody, in attempt to get Henrietta Lacks recognition from John Hopkins. Brody’s official response was not appropriate because it did not fully answer Wyche’s letter with a well-supported response. Brody did say “he was ‘uncertain of the roll Hopkins might play in any plan to celebrate Mrs. Lacks’ life’” (Skloot, 2010, p. 224-225). On the other hand, he later rambled on about statements that he believed required emphasis. His response was as though he was defending the hospital against a judicial attack. Wyche was only asking for recognition of Henrietta Lacks, and Brody reacted as though he and the hospital were getting sued. It was not clear how the list of information he presented towards the end of his response would support his indecisiveness on Henrietta Lacks’ recognition. In their letters, Brody used logical appeal while Wyche used emotional appeal. Logical appeal was stronger than emotional appeal, in this particular case, because facts cannot be denied or proven false. Contrastingly, beliefs vary on the individual. Brody wrote about specific events and topics that were factual, but Wyche tried to persuade Brody to help recognize Henrietta Lacks by mentioning “moral and ethical values” (Skloot, 2010, p. 224). Emotions are biased and cannot get involved in medicine and political issues; only science and laws can. Brody’s response evidently shows how Wyche’s appeal to pathos had no effect on him, or then he would have automatically given in to Wyche’s request without hesitation.

Agreeing with Kimberly, the response that Wyche’s wanted he did not receive and the reason for that was because Brody did say in the letter that he was uncertain of the role Hopkins would play in celebrating Henrietta Lacks’ life (Skloot, 2010, pg. 225). The thing is that they were very rhetorical when they said they acted in the best interest for everyone. They did not seem to act in the best interest for everyone because if they did that then the Lackses would have been informed of the HeLa cells and they would have been explained thoroughly on why they needed the cells. They also didn't seem to act in best interest of everyone when they did not split the wealth with those who deserve it or when they just happened to share all of the HeLa cells without the family knowing much about it (Skloot, 2010, pg. 225).
I was diagnose April 17,2015 and find out I'm HIV positive.I was scared because there is no cure for HIV/AIDS but today some people still don't believe that there is cure for HIV, it can only be cured through Africans root and herbs,and our doctor's here in USA few of them know about the African herbal medicine can cure Hiv but they chooses to hide it from us just to make a sales of medical expertise.
